Clerk Of Course In Surprise SSDT Entry
- Saturday, 01 April 2017
In a surprise move this morning SSDT organisers announced that current SSDT Clerk of the Course, Jeff Horne has gained a late entry to the 2017 Scottish Six Days Trial.
Despite not riding the event since 1994, when Dougie Lampkin clocked up the very first of his record breaking ten victories and famous names such as Colley, Saunders, Jarvis and Crawford were synonymous with the Scottish, Horne (59) has decided to return to the fray in this surprise comeback.
Explaining the reasons behind his decision to take on the toughest Trials event in the world, despite his advancing years, Horne said “Both my sons are riding the event this year and I thought it would be nice to enjoy that father-son time while I still can. Aside from that, I guess it’s kind of like “eating your own cooking” as they say. How can I as CoC know if the severity of the event is pitched properly unless I take part myself?”
Jeff, who has been undertaking a strict regime of training for the event since Thursday lunchtime said of his plans to get through the tough week “I fully expect to die”.
