1924 Scottish Six Days Trial


In the 1920’s the SSDT was subject to various changes as the event developed, and not only the event since there were significant changes to the viability of the machinery in use as well as changes in the level of tourism throughout the country, hotels became firmly established and competition to fill them made the SSDT a more attractive proposition!

In 1924 the greatest change was to put the event back into the summer season calendar in an attempt to avoid some of the extremes of weather that had affected the May date in 1923, so the trial was planned to commence on the 21st July. The event attracted 111 entries inckuding the light cars with 107 competitors facing the Start.

First Day - 220 miles

Edinburgh - Camelon - Braco - Pitlochry - Dalwhinnie - Carr Bridge - Farr House - Inverfarigaig - Inverness.
Test hills: Dennyloanhead, Sherrifmuir, Amulree, Inverfarigaig

Second Day - 159 miles

Inverness - Achilty Inn - Kinlochewe - Diabaig - Kinlochewe - Achilty Inn - Inverness.
Test hills: Torridon, Diabaig

Third Day - 192 miles

Inverness - Strathpeffer - Achnasheen - Jeantown - Applecross - Jeantown - Achnasheen - Strathpeffer - Inverness.
Test hills: Tornapress, Applecross

Fourth Day - 152 miles

Inverness - Cudrish - Fort Augustus - Fort William - Bridge of Coe - Dalmally - Oban.
Test hill: Blackfold

Fifth Day - 182 miles

Oban - Loch Losgoinn - Ford Hotel - Port Sonachan - Top of ‘Rest’ - Balloch - Camelon - Edinburgh.
Test hills: Loch Losgoinn Road, Ford Hotel, Glen Douglas

Sixth Day - 133 miles

Edinburgh - Garvaid - Gordon - Selkirk - Peebles - Blackford Hill - Finish.
Test hills: Gifford, Charlie’s Brae, Blackford.
